The Paintings

They date from March 2024 to October 2025.

They originate from videos and photographs.

At a certain moment, they touched me.

I wished to face them, and myself, with sincerity.

I strive to capture an emotion, or a spirit.

Through what I believe to be the core of all visual expression in painting —

the painterly language —

I seek to render these subjects pure and direct.

To this end, I reject all external narrative, plot, literary quality,

and intellectually conditioned modes of thinking.

The backgrounds offer no elements for interpretation.

Each painting is titled with the date of its completion.

I seek to experience and convey the power of “language” itself.

Every individual is distinct,

not by identity, status, wealth or social standing.

They are vivid beings in this world.

They breathe alongside me, sharing silence and struggle.

Their joys and sorrows, partings and reunions,

their perseverance and surrender, resistance and retreat —

these are the same as mine.

To document or interpret them

is to document or interpret myself.
